There are two types of spill-over time in the Cerner Clairvia solution suite.
This topic reviews scheduling spill-over time.
A shift category partition lasts for an exact period, such as from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Due to changing conditions, however, employees may work a greater or lesser time than a partition requires. Staff Manager must account for these time changes when reporting on coverage.
Scheduling spill-over time defines the maximum number of minutes allowed for work time to be counted toward the current Shift Category Partition. If the actual start or end time exceeds the spill-over time, then Staff Manager determines where to apply the extra time.
There are two spill-over settings: Spill-Over Front and Spill-Over Back. Together, these settings define the maximum number of spill-over minutes allowed for Staff Manager to count work time toward the current partition. If the actual coverage start time exceeds the Spill-Over Front setting, then Staff Manager applies the time to the previous partition. If the actual coverage end time exceeds the Spill-Over Back settings, Staff Manager applies the time to the next partition.
You define scheduling spill-over time using the Shift Categories dialog box in Staff Manager Client, opened from the Maintain menu by selecting Shift Categories. Each new shift category partition has a default spill-over front and back value of 0 unless someone changes that value. You can retain the default values, or you can enter new spill-over values for each partition. Staff Manager will then use those values when calculating coverage and reporting on productive hours.
EXAMPLE
The Day shift category partition starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Tom is updating the Spill-Over values for the Day shift category partition. He enters a Spill-Over Front value of 15 minutes and a Spill-Over Back value of 15 minutes. These values allow the following scenarios:
Employees can also start work as early as 6:45 a.m. without Staff Manager counting their time toward the previous partition.
Employees can work this partition until 3:15 p.m. without Staff Manager counting their time toward the next partition.
If an employee starts working at 6:44 a.m., Staff Manager will count the 16 minutes from 6:44 to 6:59 a.m. toward the previous shift category partition and the time from 7:00 until 3:00 p.m. to the Day shift category partition.
If an employee continues working until 3:16 p.m., Staff Manager will count the time from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to the Day partition, and the time from 3:01 to 3:16 p.m. toward the next shift category partition.
